Mathematics Secondary Education Track

The Mathematics Program combined with the education program at the University of Saint Francis offers you an opportunity to earn your bachelor degree in mathematics, minor in education, and your master of arts in teaching in a total of 5 years.  After obtaining your master degree you will have the opportunity to be recommended for licensure through the state of IN to teach secondary education.  You will have advisers from both the  Mathematics Program and the Department of Education.

Alternatively you can pursue your bachelor degree in mathematics, minor in education, and participate in the transition to teaching program at USF in order to be recommended for licensure in 5 years.

This program combination gives you the opportunity to master one of the most human professions in the best professional environment with maximum creativity and a wide variety of resources provided by a comprehensive Catholic institution.

This program is an appropriate response to community requests to improve the nation’s mathematical education, which still deteriorates every year. Given the chronic shortage of math teachers in secondary schools, the Mathematics education track program underscores USF’s commitment to provide qualified educators for K-12 schools in the region and across the nation.

Based on a strong balance between theoretical math and problem solving, the Mathematics Secondary Education Track will prepare you to become a well-rounded dually licensed teacher. The program includes traditional components of math education, such as history of mathematics, logic and physics, to make the program more competitive, attractive and distinguished from analogical programs.

In addition to pre-service preparation, this program also allows USF to offer continuing education and professional development opportunities, such as workshops and seminars, for current math teachers in the northeast Indiana region.
